Analysis

“This Is All Mostly True” by Kathy Stevens follows a traditional plot structure, including narrative techniques like backstory and foreshadowing. The story suggests that both Elsie and her parents experience inner conflicts, but these conflicts are never resolved.

The characters include Elsie, as the protagonist, and her father, mother, and Stacie as secondary characters. The mother and Stacie do not appear directly in the story, but they still play significant roles as Elsie thinks about them.

The main events take place at Elsie’s house. The social setting explores aspects related to family relationships, friendship, illness, and isolation.

The events are described by Elsie as a first-person narrator who shares her thoughts with the readers, but who freely admits to being unrealiable.

The story is told using plenty of descriptive language. There is also no distinction between narration and dialogue, which emphasises the fact that readers are looking at the events through the narrator’s eyes.
