Arthur

Outer characterization

Arthur is a main character in “The Good Samaritan” by Charles Ardai. Although this is how he introduces himself to the detective, we cannot be sure that this is his real name. He is described as an elderly man, with an ordinary appearance: 

They were ordinary eyes in an ordinary face. They had wrinkles at the corners and were overhung by untrimmed gray eyebrows. They were not cruel, or cloudy, or cold, or anything else in particular. Just eyes. Just a face. (p. 86, ll. 38-42)

When the detective meets him, he mentions his “friendly face with great unruly eyebrows, a small mouth, good teeth. Good dentures, more likely” (p. 95, ll. 18-20). In the first scene, when Arthur approaches Harold Sladek, he is wearing a suit (p. 86, l. 16), and he ...
