The detective

Outer characterization

The detective is one of the main characters in the short story “The Good Samaritan” by Charles Ardai. His outer characterization is briefly presented. The readers only know his job, that he has a son (p. 91, l. 5), that he is older than his partner (p. 88, l. 15), but younger than the killer (p. 92, ll. 34-35). His physical appearance is only described while the detective is disguised as a homeless man: 

He sat with a blue knit hat pulled down over his forehead, his hands crammed under his armpits, shivering. Even with two shirts on, he was cold. He had a thin blanket, which he had wrapped and rewrapped around himself, trying to make it hold in as much heat as possible. (p. 94, ll. 21-25)
