Literary perspective

The short story “The Good Samaritan” by Charles Ardai is a modernist work of fiction. One modernist feature present in the story is the un-traditional structure. The narrative jumps from one scene to another, just like in a movie, without any explanation. Then, the switch of perspectives is another modernist feature. Although the narrative mainly provides the detective’s perspective, other characters are also taken into consideration, and their perspectives make the story more realistic. Modernist stories also focus on problems relevant to society. “The Good Samaritan” draws attention to the vulnerable position in which homeless people often find themselves.
