Characters

The main characters in the short story “The Company of Wolves” by Angela Carter are the girl and the werewolf. There are several other characters introduced in the tales in the first part of the text, but they are not directly involved in the main events.

The girl is probably a teenager, who has to pass through the forest to bring her sick grandmother food. Her encounter with the werewolf marks a change in the girl, who is forced to transition from innocence to womanhood by using her sexuality to save her own life.

The werewolf is a magical and cunning creature. When he is dressed, he takes the appearance of a handsome hunter. After he gets undressed, he reveals his true form and gives in to his instincts. His encounter with the girl is atypical, as he is seduced by her and ends up sparing her life.
