Literary period

Published in 2017, Beejay Silcox's “Slut Trouble” fits the literary movement we call Postmodernism, which defines most literature published since the 1960s. Postmodernist works can be recognised through themes, context, and narrative techniques. In “Slut Trouble”, we notice that the author explores themes like female adolescence and slut-shaming and victim-blaming, which can often be found in postmodern literature. Especially in the past couple of years, these topics have been on the world's agenda, mainly because of the so-called #MeToo movement which highlighted the misogynist attitudes that still exist in some industries and communities.

In terms of postmodernist narrative techniques, “Slut Trouble” by Beejay Silcox uses a first-person narrator and focuses on the surface description of the characters and the events. Meanwhile, the author only hints at the deeper meaning of the events, and does not draw a final conclusion.
