Analysis

“Slut Trouble” by Beejay Silcox follows a linear plot structure, including narrative techniques like backstory and foreshadowing. The story consists of a series of events that hint at how two teenage girls, Laura and Megan, are influenced by the kidnapping of two young women.

The characters include Laura and Megan as the most important characters. Laura’s mother and Megan’s father, Mr Henderson, are secondary characters. The story also mentions Megan’s mother, Laura’s grandmother and the two kidnapped girls – Julie-Anne Marks and Kimberly Watson – as well as members of their families.

The main events take place in a town in Australia. The social setting explores aspects related to topics such as the female adolescent experience, prejudice and violence against women, slut-shaming, and victim-blaming.

The events are described by Laura as a first-person narrator with a limited point of view who also shares her thoughts and feelings with the readers.

The language of the story uses a mix of narration and dialogue, like most fiction texts, which helps the readers understand more about the characters and their circumstances. The style of writing in lines 142-147 reflects Laura’s perspective – an enhanced awareness of her surroundings.
