Kim

Kim is one of the main characters in the short story "Rendezvous" by Daniel Ransom. She is a 15-year-old girl who has run away from home. Her food consists of granola bars and a quarter of an apple (p. 51, ll. 17-18), but she prefers eating hamburgers and drinking soda (p. 51, ll. 33-34). She enjoys listening to “good music on the radio” (p. 51, ll. 34-35), and has slender hands (p. 53, l. 26).

Kim appears to be a rebellious teenager. She is disappointed that her parents do not allow her enough freedom, and decides to run away to prove a point (p. 51, l. 29) and to make her parents “more reasonable where her freedom is concerned” (p. 51, ll. 26-27). This shows her wish to be more independent. She also “hopes her parents are scared. They deserve to be.” (p. 51, ll. 37-38), suggesting she wants to punish her parents for their controlling attitude and, in this way, control them too.
