Uddrag
Nedenfor kan du læse et kort uddrag fra vores study guide til teksten:
Title
The title of the short story “Rendezvous” by Daniel Ransom mainly works as foreshadowing, as it immediately makes the reader expect that the two characters who are introduced in the story will meet each other at its climax. However, while the word 'rendezvous' is normally used about a prearranged meeting, in the story we instead see various twists of fate that lead the characters together. As the reader becomes more and more aware of Payton's disturbing character, the foreshadowing created by the title becomes more and more dramatic, as it creates the expectation that Kim will not survive the encounter.
The word “rendezvous” also has romantic undertones, and it can be used to mean “a date”. Therefore, the title may at first lead readers to expect a positive outcome to the story. However, as the clues in the text point to Payton being a serial killer, the romantic implications of the title become ironic, as the “rendezvous” will most likely end with Kim becoming another one of Payton’s victims.
