Theme and message

The main theme of “Renaude” by Charlotte Bondy is friendship and freedom. For Clara and Mischa, their friendship is extremely important, and the two of them avoid doing anything that would jeopardise it. Through this theme, the author’s message is that teenagers nowadays discover themselves and adapt to the world around them through their friends and by exploring their limits and freedom.

Friendship and freedom

This theme is illustrated in the short story by Clara and Mischa. The two teenagers are best friends and greatly value their relationship. Although one is a girl and the other is a boy, there seems to be no sexual tension between them, as Clara is a lesbian and Mischa is straight.
