Setting

The events presented in the short film “Owen” directed by Kelly Pike take place in Los Angeles, US, as shown by the papers displayed at the local council (01:42). 

Most of the scenes take place outdoors, in the streets or in parks. For example, Hellen and Owen wake up in their tent, under a railway that can be heard rattling (00:03-01:22). The noise made by the drunk men who break bottles and urinate on the tent further creates an uneasy atmosphere, which highlights Hellen’s difficult life on the streets. Similarly, the long shot of the tent offers more insight into Hellen’s poor living conditions (00:54-01:02).
