Summary

The short film “Owen” by Kelly Pike begins with a shot of Hellen and her dog Owen sleeping in a tent on the streets. They are woken up by two drunk men who break bottles and urinate on the tent. 

Hellen leaves Owen to wait for her in front of a building and goes inside. It is revealed that she is at a local council of Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, looking for housing. Hellen sees her reflection in one of the display cases and tries to make herself look more presentable. 

A young woman named Star treats Hellen nicely and tells her that a room for her has finally come up. It is at Franklin House. Hellen is offered the room, but is told that no animals are allowed, which makes Hellen hesitate. She is told that she has to pay for the room before 6 o’...
