Framing

The short film “Owen” directed by Kelly Pike uses a combination of shots.

The film uses several long shots to give an overview of Hellen’s life on the streets. A long shot, for instance, is used at the beginning of the film, when the camera presents Hellen’s tent under a railway (00:54-01:02). Another long shot is used when Hellen is about to enter the local council. The long shot (01:24-01:34) presents Hellen with her belongings, next to Owen, who waits for her outside. The scene highlights Hellen’s loneliness, as well as the fact that all she has is Owen and her bags.

Medium shots are mainly used to highlight the relationship between Hellen and Owen. When Hellen wakes up and discovers that two drunk men have urinated on the tent and her pants, she is upset.
