Narrator and point of view
The short story “Open Or Wrapped” by Lynne Rees is a third person-narration, conveyed using the point of view of the main character, Francine.
The narrator, who is outside the events, takes on Francine’s limited knowledge perspective: “Just three more weeks and then she can tell them all to piss off. She’s surprised how much it’s getting to her, after all she’s had her fair share of unwanted attention ever since she was 12…” (ll. 20-22)
This makes Francine’s character more relatable to the readers and helps the narrator convey the climactic moment as a surprise.
