Physical setting

The events presented in the short film “Light My Fire” by Bobb Barito take place in Arkansas, US, as we can see from Miles’ plate number (00:49). Arkansas is one of the southern states, which is a part of the US that is often associated with traditional family ideas and values. This appears to be reflected in the ideas of the roles of women and men which we see in the film. Read more about this in Social setting.

Miles’ confrontation with Clark takes place on the 4th of July, on Independence Day. In the first shots of the film (00:05-00:10), a US flag is pictured on Miles’ house, but Independence Day decorations are also shown at Clark’s house (01:51-02:06). The decorations and the US flag symbolize patriotism and pride.
