Part three of your assignment asks you to discuss when to end a relationship, taking your starting point in the short story. You should also include two of the following phrases: though, secondly, however, alternatively, firstly, since, yet, whereas.

The words you have to use in your discussion are known as linking words. They help introduce points and arguments (firstly, secondly), exceptions (however, though, yet), opposing arguments (alternatively), causal relations (since), or comparisons (whereas).

In what follows, we will give you inspiration for your discussion about relationships, while also showing you how the mandatory linking words can be used in practice. 

Firstly, you should consider whether you think the ending of the story would be a good time to end his relationship with Renee. Ending his relationship while still grieving for his mother is probably not a wise course of action as he is in a very emotional state, even though he was unhappy for a long time.

Consider also that the story’s ending only suggests that Mason wants a divorce, but we do not know if he will tell Renee that or not.
