Just to give a brief summary of the story to start with. It takes place sometime in the 1800s, because the occasion of the story is a jubilee for Queen Victoria. Which is kind of an anniversary for the British regent. And our main characters are the Queen and then an alderman in an English town called Arthur Pritt. Pritt is responsible for hosting the Queen at this event and throughout the story we learn that he is not very happy about this situation, because he feels that the queen is unhappy and has seen everything before. So he feels a bit frustrated that he was unable to give her a better experience. And then this leads to him telling her personal story from his life, which has some quite shocking elements in it. And then the Queen reacts to to this story. So the plot is fairly simple, but a lot of things are going on if you look below the surface.
