Narrator and point of view

The events described in the short story “Jubilee” by Carys Davies are told by a third-person narrator who is limited to Arthur Pritt’s point of view. 

As the narrative is limited to Arthur’s point of view, everything that happens in the story is interpreted through him. Since before meeting the Queen, Arthur is influenced by the rumors that she still prepares her husband’s clothes and personal items each morning, even after his death. Because of this, Arthur assumes that the Queen’s stern expression is caused by her grief. As he has also lost his wife, Arthur projects his feelings onto the Queen and assumes that the two of them are grieving for the same reason.
