Style of language

The sentences in Joe Biden’s 2020 victory speech are generally short and to the point, focusing on an idea that the speaker wants to express. For instance: “For that is what America is about: the people. And this is what our administration will be about. I sought this office to restore the soul of America” (ll. 9-11). These sentences are mainly meant to inform. They express ideas in a simple and concise way. Some of the shorter sentences even lack a verb, for instance, the one which lists the characteristics of Biden’s coalition members: “Democrats, Republicans and Independents.
