Analysis

In this section, we will highlight the elements of our analysis of “I Dare You” by Eileen Merriman.

The story follows a linear plot structure, while including narrative techniques like backstory and foreshadowing.

The characters include Jane, the main character, and Carrie and William, as secondary characters. Note that the story also mentions Jane’s mother and brother.

The events take place in and around Dunedin, a city in New Zealand. The social setting explores issues such as teenage life, drug use, crime, kidnapping and sexual assault, and trauma.

The events are described by Jane as a first-person narrator, and she shares her thoughts and feelings with the readers.

The language is simple, mixing narration with dialogue and stream of consciousness, which helps the reader understand more about the characters and the events.
