Guy Winch’s TED Talk “How to fix a broken heart” discusses different strategies to employ when trying to recover from a broken heart. In his talk, Winch alternates between offering general information about heartbreak and anecdotes about specific persons to support his arguments.

In the first part of his talk, Winch presents an anecdote from one of his patients who experienced heartbreak. He tells the story of a woman named Kathy who recovered from breast cancer twice but was not able to use the same emotional strength to recover from a breakup to show that struggling to get over heartbreak is an issue that affects everyone. In this way, Winch opens his talk with a specific problem and only then moves to a more general approach of the subject of heartbreak.
