Structure

The novel Holes by Louis Sachar is divided into three parts of varying length. Each part has its own title.

Part One

The first part is called "You are Entering Camp Green Lake". It is the longest and most complex of them all. It contains 28 of the total 50 chapters and all three storylines are present. 

The first part tells the story of Stanley's first weeks at Camp Green Lake, how Stanley's great-great-grandfather Elya Yelnats put a curse on his family, and how beloved schoolteacher Katherine Barlow became the feared outlaw Kissin' Kate Barlow. The two storylines from the past are brought to their conclusion in the first part.
