Analysis

Hamlet by William Shakespeare is structured into five acts, which can be analyzed using Freytag’s pyramid of plot structure. The event that becomes the catalyst for the action is the ghost’s revelation that he was murdered by his own brother and now demands revenge. 

The language of the play is a mixture of prose and blank verse (iambic pentameter). There are also numerous literary devices such as alliteration, metaphors, and personifications. 

The play contains many symbols, such as the skull Hamlet is holding at one point, Hamlet’s change of clothes, and Ophelia’s flowers.
