Revenge and justice are themes that are interlinked in Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Hamlet’s mission of justified revenge

Hamlet is a revenge tragedy, which tells the story of a young prince who gets charged with a revenge mission to correct the wrongs of the villain Claudius. 

The revenge plot of the play starts rolling when Hamlet learns from the ghost of his deceased father that Claudius has murdered him. The ghost demands revenge, and Hamlet swears to deliver: “And thy commandment all alone shall live Within the book and volume of my brain, Unmix’d with baser matter.” (1.5.109)
