The movie Gran Torino (2008) by Clint Eastwood starts with an instrumental version of the most significant song on the soundtrack. The song Gran Torino was written just for the film by Clint Eastwood and Jamie Cullum, who both also perform the song in the ending sequence of the movie. The lyrics of the song reflect Walt’s story and his feelings. They speak of loneliness and regret over past things that continue to haunt him. In the ending of the movie, the song is first performed by Eastwood himself, which further highlights the idea that the song expresses Walt’s feelings, before Cullum takes over.
