Narrator and point of view

The events described in the short story “Eveline” by James Joyce are told by a third-person narrator, who is outside the story. 

The narrator adopts Eveline’s perspective and presents her thoughts and feelings through free indirect speech, like in the following example: “Ernest had been her favourite but she liked Harry too. Her father was becoming old lately, she noticed; he would miss her. Sometimes he could be very nice”. Since these are Eveline’s opinions about her father, we could say the narrator is subjective.
