Summary

A young African boy, called Joseph, with a haunting backstory starts school in Ireland and finds out quickly exactly what it means to be the new boy. As he is introduced to the class by the teacher, he immediately feels uncomfortable. Two of the boys, Christian and Seth, start to pick on him during math class. Though Joseph does not say anything, a girl, Hazel, tells on the other boys to the teacher.

During the class, Joseph recalls a time in school in his home country. His memories reveal that his father was also his teacher. In the new class, the boys continue to pick on him, and Joseph reacts by squeezing Christian’s finger. The teacher tries to calm the boys down.
