Intention

Informing readers of misconceptions regarding nature

In “Dominion Over Nature”, Robert Pack’s intention to inform the reader is noticeable from the start. To support his arguments, he refers to concepts from the Bible, from which he draws ethos:

The second commandment, to subdue and take dominion, is a projection of the human wish to possess and master, and beyond a certain limit – a limit our species confronts today – is not in harmony with a spirit of celebration and appreciation. (ll. 8-11)

In his text, Pack informs the readers that people have had a faulty start in terms of relating to nature, since the ideas presented in the Bible are contradictory.
