Sender

The sender of the excerpt “Dominion Over Nature” is Robert Pack, an American poet, critic, and professor. Pack has written several books of poetry, the last of which, Laughter Before Sleep, was published in 2011.

Pack is also the author of several non-fiction books. One of his books, a collection of essays called Belief and Uncertainty in the Poetry of Robert Frost, was published in 2003. The excerpt in Wider Contexts is taken from the first chapter of this collection of essays and focuses on how mankind relates to nature.

It is also worth mentioning that Pack is an admirer of poet Robert Frost, who influenced his work and whom he met while attending Dartmouth College. Pack’s personal connection with the poet and his professional experience as both a poet and a critic give him the authority to write on this topic. It means that he is writing about something in which he is an expert. This adds to his reliability.
