Argumentation
In the text “Dominion Over Nature”, Robert Pack mostly uses direct argumentation, showing his point of view in a clear manner.
At the beginning, Pack presents his thesis. He explains that humankind’s view towards nature is wrong and that this view originates from the Bible:
The initial account is followed by God’s first commandment, ‘Be fruitful and multiply,’ but this imperative is succeeded by a second one – ‘subdue [the earth], and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air (…) – which will prove to be antithetical to the first. (ll. 2-7)
Then, Pack gives arguments to support his thesis. He explains that God’s first two commandments towards humans are contradictory because the second commandment makes the first one impossible.
