Richard Cameron

Richard Cameron is a student at Welton Academy and a member of Dead Poets Society in the film Dead Poets Society (1989) directed by Peter Weir.. He is Charlie Dalton’s roommate, although Charlie does not seem to enjoy this. He is the only member of the Dead Poets Society who does not pay tribute to Keating upon his departure. 

Cameron is rude and insensitive with his fellow students. He mocks Todd, saying that he “looks like a stiff” (00:06:09), and when he realizes Todd is right behind him, he does not apologize or introduce himself, he merely says “Oops” and leaves (00:06:10-00:06:13). However, with those in a position of authority such as the teachers, he is respectful and tries not to get on their bad side. Even with Keating, who confuses him by his unconventional manner, he is considerate, listening to him attentively and laughing at his jokes. This suggests that he is a hypocrite

Such behavior prompts Charlie to declare that Cameron’s specialty is “bootlicking” (00:07:01). Neil’s friends are not happy to include him in their activities, even though he is Charlie’s roommate.
