Raglan

Raglan is one of the main characters in the story “Crusader Rabbit” by Jess Mowry.

Outer characterization

Raglan's outer characterization reveals that Raglan is his “street name” (l. 75), which he uses because his father used to call him Raglan when he was a boy.

Raglan's physical portrait is conveyed in comparison with Jeremy and reveals that that he is 26 years old and has had a rough life:

Raglan could have been a larger copy of the boy, twice his age but looking it only in size, and without the earring. There was an old knife slash on his chest; a deep one, with a high ridge of a scar. (ll. 27-29)

Jeremy is described in a way that suggests he is African-American, and the pair’s similarity suggests that Raglan is too. He owns a Chevy truck in which he probably lives. The description of the truck reveals that Raglan owns a gun and the mention of the bullet holes in the car (ll. 200-201) suggest a violent past:
