Forms of appeal

Bill Clinton mainly appeals to ethos and pathos in his “I Have Sinned” speech. Ethos is used when Clinton portrays himself as a competent president, while pathos is used when he talks about religion.

Ethos 

Clinton appeals to ethos when he portrays himself as a competent president for America. He implies that, despite the mistakes he has made, he is still a good leader who has citizens’ interests at heart: “I am profoundly grateful for the support of so many Americans who somehow through it all seem to still know that I care about them a great deal, that I care about their problems and their dreams”. 

Clinton also appeals to ethos when he suggests that he is an example of integrity and repentance: 

The children of this country can learn in a profound way that integrit...
