Characters

The most important characters in “A Fable” by Robert Fox are the young man, who is the main character, and the girl and her mother, as secondary characters. The characters are not given names, because they are meant to represent stereotypes of modern society. You should also note that none of the characters change by the end of the story.

Note that the story also mentions the people in the subway car, who form a collective character, with little importance to the plot. They do, however, have a symbolic role in the story. They represent alienation in modern society, which encourages traditional gender roles and the pursuit of material things instead of knowing the inner self.

Next, we will characterize the young man, the girl, and her mother.
