“Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat” was delivered by Winston Churchill in front of the House of Commons in the British Parliament. Most likely covered by the written press of the time, the speech was only recorded by Churchill years later and broadcast on the radio.

Consequently, the main target audience of the speaker are the British members of the Parliament: “I now invite the House by a resolution to record its approval of the steps taken and declare its confidence in the new government.” (ll. 18-20)
