Tobias

Tobias is the main character in the short story, as suggested by the title. His characterization is constructed by presenting his perspective and attitude towards being unemployed and in relation to his girlfriend Miriam.

His outer characterization gives a detailed background on the character. We know he is in a relationship with Miriam (p. 1, l.6), that he has two master’s degrees (p. 1, l. 24), and that he has had several jobs: Spanish and History teacher (p. 1, l. 2), bartender (p. 1, l. 2), and clerk (p. 1, l. 4).
