Intention

In the article “3 Things Amy Cooper Did In Central Park To Damage Her Reputation And Career”, Terina Allen has two closely related intentions. She wants to criticize Amy Cooper for her behavior during the birdwatching incident and she wants to show how this behavior is a symptom of more widespread issues in US society.

Criticism of Amy Cooper’s behavior

Allen’s intention is to criticize Amy Cooper for her reactions to the Central Park incident. For example, Allen uses irony when she argues that Amy Cooper is not aware of the implications of her gesture: “Oh – will someone help me tell Amy Cooper that it was about so much more than words?” (ll. 24-25).
