Direct references 

In the text “3 Things Amy Cooper Did In Central Park To Damage Her Reputation And Career”, Terina Allen includes several direct references meant to highlight the extent of racism in the US. 

First, Allen refers to the murder of George Floyd, a black man who was killed by a white police officer during an arrest:

For several days now we have watched the outcry, anger, fires, riots and protests on the streets of Minneapolis, St. Paul and various other U.S. cities in response to this unjustifiable killing at the hands of Derek Chauvin and three other police officers, and it is tragic. (ll. 14-17)

Here, Allen refers to the massive protests George Floyd’s death generated in the US. She uses this reference to remind the audience that police brutality against black people is a very real threat in the US, and this helps support her argument that Amy Cooper’s actions were p...
