Style of language

In his speech “Their Finest Hour”, Winston Churchill uses a formal style of language, which matches the seriousness of the issues he addresses. Nevertheless, despite the formality of the speech, Churchill’s message can be easily understood by the general audience. 

The formality of the language is mainly noticeable in Churchill’s sentence structure. Longer and more complex sentences, for example, as used when Churchill talks about the help offered by the Dominions
