Narrator and point of view
The short story “The School of Life” by Lauren Keenan is narrated by a third-person narrator who is limited to Marcus’s perspective.
Because the narrator presents Marcus’s perspective, readers have access to his thoughts and feelings. For example, when he arrives at his new job, the narration shows that he is worried about the way he is dressed:
Marcus mentally sifted through his wardrobe. What could he wear tomorrow so he didn’t stand out so much? His old Barkers pants were too small.
