Marcus

Outer characterization

The main character of the story “The School of Life” by Lauren Keenan is Marcus. He is a university student so he is most likely in his late teens or early twenties and he is studying law. Marcus is wearing a “pressed T-shirt, clean jeans and new Vans” (ll. 4-5).

Several comments in the story suggest that he comes from a well-off family. For example, Marcus is very preoccupied with the expensive clothes he owns(ll. 20-21). Moreover, he is working at the plant nursery not because he really needs a job or money, but because his father wanted to teach him a lesson.
