Message

The film The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) directed by Gabriele Muccino could have several messages. The film presents the struggle of one person to find happiness and achieve financial stability, so the messages focus on this aspect.

An important message in the film is that the search for happiness is constant throughout life. This is something that Chris realizes eventually, and it changes his outlook on everything. Even if it may appear to be a disheartening message, it helps Chris become more focused, and closer to achieving his goals. At the end of the film, when Chris achieves his goal of getting hired at Dean Witter as a stockbroker, he claims he has finally achieved happiness. However, he also implies that the state of pure happiness did not last long, despite his life taking a significant turn for the better. This is how we realize that this message is in fact an optimistic one and it reflects the reality of life. Even though his life got significantly better, Chris soon found other goals and other achievements to strive towards, which meant that the cycle of pursuing happiness would begin again.
