Sender and receiver

The essay “Stability in Motion” was published in 2014, in a posthumous collection of essays by the author, Marina Keegan. The fact that the essay is included in a book published after the author’s death suggests that the text is one of her representative works.

Sender

As a sender, Marina Keegan presents credibility and interest through her popularity and dramatic end. Before she died in a car crash, young Marina Keegan already gained fame through her essay “The Opposite of Loneliness”, which went viral on the Internet.

Receiver

Because the essay focuses on teenage Keegan’s relationship with her car, some target receivers are teenagers and their parents: “I acquired the old Camry through an awkward transaction. Ten days before my sixteenth birthday, my grandfather died.” (ll. 32-34)
