Kim is the narrator of the story and the protagonist.

Her outer characterisation tells us that she is a teenager who comes from London and that she used to work in a “holiday home for deprived children” (l. 14). At the beginning of the story, she is thin and yellowish because she has Hepatitis B: “Not that I had much weight, I was thin as a rake, yellow, recovering from a Bad dose of Hep B.” (ll. 4-6)
