Neil Gaiman's intention

In this section we will talk about Neil Gaiman's intention with the article “So many ways to die in Syria now”.  

In general, the author’s intention is to raise awareness about the situation of the Syrian refugees: how they were persecuted and why they fled their countries, the living conditions in refugee camps, and the uncertain future ahead of the refugees. 

The writer wants his readers to understand what it is like to be a refugee and this is why he presents the case of Abu Hani and Yalda:

“On the local news they would show bodies that had been found, so people could identify their relatives: one time he saw a cousin’s severed head on there. Mostly their relatives just vanished.” (ll. 11-13)
