Characters

The most important characters in “Mother of the City” by Christopher Fowler are Douglas and Michelle Davies.

Douglas is the protagonist of the story and could be considered a developing character. He finally realises and accepts that he does not want to live in the suburbs any longer.

Michelle Davis is a secondary character in the story. She is Douglas’ love interest but also seems to have a special relationship with London.

Other characters are Michelle’s friend who is nicknamed Pony-Tail and the bouncer in front of the blUeTOPIA club. Douglas also mentions his parents and his uncles and aunts, and a few collective characters such as the people living in the suburbs, Michelle’s friends, the crowd in front of the blUeTOPIA club, and the passers-by in London.
