Forms of appeal

Stephanie Marsh’s article “Wild at heart: how one woman and her husband live out in the woods” is dominated by ethos and pathos.

Ethos 

Marsh builds ethos for herself by showing that she is willing to go out and visit people who live in the wilderness directly instead of just doing research at a distance and informing herself from secondary sources. This helps her to paint a more accurate portrayal of what living in nature is like because she can relate her direct observations. Since she investigates the issue personally, she comes across as a more credible source. 

When it comes to Miriam and Peter, they have been living in the wilderness for many years and thus they have a lot of direct experience of what this lifestyle entails. Because of this, it can be said that they have authority and credibility...
