Create awareness about the role of the internet in our lives
Leah McLaren’s intention in the article “Innocence lost: what did you do before the internet?” is to raise awareness that “quite soon, no person on earth will remember what the world was like before the internet” (ll. 12-13). She also expresses her worry that “the actual lived experience of what it was like to think and feel and be human before the emergence of big data will be gone” (ll. 14-15). Note the phrase “be human”; her point is that the internet affects the way we are human, meaning the way we live our lives and see the world.
