Most of Hanif Kureishi’s works belong to the literary movement called postcolonial literature. Postcolonial literature is in its essence postmodernist because it deals with issues related to former colonies after WWII. Postmodernism is defined by themes relevant to post-WWII, industrial society. In other words, Postcolonialism is a postmodernist theme.

To familiarise yourself with Kureishi’s style of writing you could read another of his short stories, “The Penis” (Serious business - satire, wit and humour, pp. 79-85). The story is a surrealist tale about a penis who runs away from his owner, a porn-film actor. The story is about sexual objectification and identity.
