Narrator and point of view

In “Graveyard Shift” by James M. Reasoner, the main character Frank is also the first-person narrator. He offers some insight into his thoughts and feelings. For example, he reveals feelings of anticipation and excitement: “I felt an ache in my belly and the palms of my bands began to sweat.” (p. 82, ll. 3-4). Note that, while the narrator mentions fear several times, he never explicitly states that he is afraid. The narrator also interprets other characters' reactions when he talks about the "surprise and fear" (p. 83, l. 23) the robber feels when Frank points his gun at him.

The narrator is explicit when he presents the types of customers he usually comes across during his jobs in convenience stores (p. 81, ll. 14-19). The narration is implicit, however, when Frank deliberately keeps inform...
